Water and coffee

Day 45: we are walking all the right miles, but not necessarily in the right order. The ferry to Arran was supposed to go from Ardrossan but they moved it to Troon, which is nearer to Ayr (where we’re staying). So today we walked from Troon to Ardrossan and came back by train, leaving the bit between Ayr and Troon to be filled in tomorrow. Clear? The team certainly weren’t.
Today was notable for a fine cup of coffee on route – the first one since Ashbourne and easily the best of the whole trip – and for the heaviest rain so far. We deferred lunch until the rain had stopped, which made it a very late one. Claire and Steve, who joined us for the day, thus got a misleading impression of our work (or walk) ethic. Much of the journey was along the beach or esplanade, with some good crashing waves, but a long diversion inland provided variety of scenery. Track of the Day is “Black Coffee” recorded by Peggy Lee, in celebration of this morning’s joyful surprise.
