Are We Nearly There?

Day 49. Today we celebrate not the end of the walk (which hasn’t yet happened) but our heroic spouses, Sarah, Sandra, Anne and Clive, who have finally made it to Islay after an frustrating two days of sitting on quaysides waiting for delayed or cancelled ferries. Or missing the one ferry that did run, because CalMac told everyone it was cancelled.
They (the spouses, not CalMac) have had the lion’s share of the inconvenience associated with our trip and little or none of the pleasure of walking. They have encouraged and supported us throughout this crazy project, which would have been so much harder and less enjoyable without them. Thankfully they are all here now and slightly mellower after a helping of Cathy’s excellent spag bol. The picture shows them playing the unique Grand National game in Brodick Castle (Day 47) - at which Anne wiped the floor with everyone.
Meanwhile the walkers completed another 9 miles; this was supposed to be the last day, but it isn’t quite - due to the ferry disruptions, we still have a day’s walk to do. Onward tomorrow. Track of the Day is a wonderful version of the children’s song “Are We Nearly There Yet” by Tom Gates - I know how those kids feel.
