Just keep pushing on

Day 27 was a big day - our task was to climb the other two Yorkshire Peaks, Ingleborough (724m, 2375') and Whernside (736m, 2415') and walk a total of 21 miles to get to Sedbergh, our next lodging. Fortunately the weather was lovely - sunny, some breeze but not too much, good views. And it wasn't just about these two mountains. In between was a fascinating limestone landscape which looked more Mediterranean than Yorkshire; then we had some Pennine peat bogs and finally the lush, pretty valley of Dentdale. It was a great day, but it was also long, and we were pretty footsore by the end. Fortunately our anxiety about arriving in time for dinner was alleviated.

We met a lot of people on the mountains, many of them doing the challenging Three Peaks in a day (Danny just about completed the three in 24 hours, the rest of us a little later) - on the other hand, not many of them are walking to Islay! Our exciting wildlife spot of the day was a tiny vole, right on the path. Rather more selfishly, we were also excited to meet an ice-cream van in an unlikely place, just before the ascent of Whernside; judging by the drooling of those coming down on seeing our ice-creams, we suspect they will have done a roaring trade.

Track of the Day is Miley Cyrus singing The Climb, to celebrate our biggest day of uphill yet and how important it is to "just keep pushing on". However in terms of pictures, the vole is the star of the show.
